Certain events call for a specific attire. For example, if you’re going to the Los Angeles premiere of Barbie as many did on Sunday you better show up dressed up like a doll. Same goes for sitting front row at a couture show or courtside at Wimbledon. This week’s most fashionable celebrities embraced method dressing, wherever they were. On the Barbie press tour, Margot Robbie has all but turned into a Barbie herself, referencing the Mattel staple’s most iconic outfits over the decades. For Sunday’s U.S. premiere, she transformed into the 1960 “Solo in the Spotlight” doll. The fitted black sequin dress with a stiff, horizontal tulle hem styled with black gloves and a pink handkerchief was a lighthearted interpretation of Old Hollywood codes. Dua Lipa also attended the premiere in a chainmail esque (read sheer) custom Bottega Veneta silver dress. It was a welcome reprieve from the sea of pink, and a showstopper all on its own.

Over in Paris, the couture runways saw many over the top fashion statements. However, it was some of the quieter moments that proved to be the most elegant. Take Cardi B in shimmering Fendi (a dress that could only be described as low key within the context of the extravagant couture shows), or Alessandra Ambrosio attending the Giorgio Armani show in a fit and flare white dress and minimal black accessories. On the other hand, Wimbledon and indeed, tennis in general calls for a preppy, buttoned up wardrobe. The Princess of Wales set the tone in a minty fresh Balmain blazer and breezy white midi skirt and white pumps. Emma Corrin attended day seven in a short suit the color of a skinned almond. Worn with brown derby shoes and a matching tie, the Ralph Lauren suit was at once serious and playful, with Corrin’s fresh buzzcut only adding to the levity.
