Scott’s Moschino has proven to be a consistent standout at the Met Gala overall. There was no better designer for the 2019 “Camp” theme than Scott. He created a Barbie pink moto dress for Kacey Musgraves, and a black gown with a golden picture frame surrounding her face for Tracee Ellis Ross. A year prior, for the 2018 “Heavenly Bodies” theme, he dressed Cardi B in an ornate gown that was embellished with pearls and gems delivering the best maternity moment of the evening, no doubt. Musicians in particular have been drawn to Scott’s Moschino designs perhaps because performers are all about the drama and theatricality. Lizzo always does his garments justice. Her best Moschino moment was at the 2020 Brit Awards, when she showed up in a frock that mimicked a Hershey s candy wrapper. Irreverent and smile inducing, it exemplified Scott’s work. Now that Moschino’s got an open slot to fill, one can only hope that whichever designer steps into his shoes will be just as down for a laugh.
What makes style icons, well, iconic? They are people whose fashion sense is instantly recognizable and entirely unique to them. Over the years, there has been a handful of such celebrities who have proven to be extremely dedicated to their inimitable taste over the years. We’re talking A listers who have never strayed from their iconic look, keeping away from the hottest fashion trends or looks of the moment in favor of a more individualistic approach to dressing. Why be a victim to passing fads, when you can develop a standard uniform that will stand the test of time?
