How will young British hopeful Katie Boulter fare at SW19? Will this be Andy Murray’s final attempt to lift the men’s singles trophy? And what will we do without Sue Barker? Wimbledon 2023 has us asking all of these questions plus one more what’s everyone wearing? The Princess of Wales, patron of the Lawn Tennis Association and avid tennis fan, made her first appearance at the 2023 tournament on Tuesday, wearing a retro look that nodded to both the occasion (a pleated white skirt with mint green blazer) and the ’80s wardrobe of her late mother in law. The young Italian player Jannik Sinner, meanwhile, delivered a high fashion moment on the court when he beat Argentina’s Juan Manuel Cerúndolo in straight sets on day one of the tournament, having walked out in front of the crowd with his kit in a bespoke Gucci duffel bag.
With her honeyed voice, huge, doe eyes, and tumbling raven curls, Donna Summer was a pop culture presence nonpareil, producing an improbable number of disco and R&B hits in the 1970s and 1980s. (“I Feel Love,” “Last Dance,” “Heaven Knows,” “Bad Girls,” “Hot Stuff,” “On the Radio”…the list goes on and on.) Yet behind the sexy persona and 10 minute dance mixes was a fiercely private mother of three girls; a survivor of sexual and physical abuse; and an irrepressible, agenda setting artist who did, in fact, work very hard for the money.
